Thematic Panels: 90 min slot. Maximum 5 presentations + minimum 15 minutes discussion/ Q & A

Abstract Submission Guidelines for papers and posters:
Abstracts should be anonymous. Please delete all references to the authors.
Each abstract should include the following:
a. Title (max: 15 words)
b. Abstract (max: 350 words excluding references)
c. Citation style: APA (7th edition)
Please submit your abstract online following this format.

For Thematic Panels:
Add the details of the panel chair as the submitting author and of all the authors using the "Add Co-author" function. (Please indicate which contributing authors are also panel co-chairs, if any).
Add a title line with the title of the panel under "Abstract Title".
Upload one document with all the abstracts including a 250-word rationale for the panel + 150 words per paper (max. 5 papers).
Remember to delete all references to the authors.

Each presenter can appear on a maximum of three abstracts (whether paper / poster presentation, panel) and only once as the first author (excluding thematic panels).

Authors should ensure that the same abstract has not been presented at another conference.

Selection Process
All submissions will undergo a double (or triple) blind review and the first author of accepted submissions will be informed by the beginning of April 2027.

The ISGS will offer a restricted number of bursaries to student presenters, including PhD candidates, at the conference as a waiver of the registration price. Information regarding the application process will be provided following review of conference abstracts.

International Sign interpreting will be provided by Overseas Interpreting. We will inquire about your requirements during registration.

12th International Symposium on Intercultural, Cognitive and Social Pragmatics (EPICS XII)

Dear colleagues,

The research group “Intercultural pragmatic studies (English-Spanish): Pragmatic and discourse issues” is pleased to announce the upcoming Twelfth International Symposium on Intercultural, Cognitive and Social Pragmatics (EPICS XII, after the Spanish acronym for “Encuentros de Pragmática Intercultural, Cognitiva y Social”). Under the aegis of the PATDISC research project (“Discourse pathologisation in Twitter, Instagram and TikTok”, grant PID2022-136840O, MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and ERDF, UE), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, EPICS XII will be held on May 27th-29th 2026, at the Faculty of Humanities of Pablo de Olavide University, Seville (Spain).

EPICS XII will be an on-site, face-to-face academic event. EPICS XII seeks to bring together practitioners in pragmatics and discourse analysis who are interested in the interaction between these two disciplines for the analysis of digital communication and discourse for a variety of practices and in distinct sites. Therefore, the conference main theme will be “Communicating in the digital age: Pragmatics, discourse analysis and (online) interaction”. However, in order to be loyal to the spirit with which the EPICS conferences were created, presentations addressing other areas of communication and/or linguistic/communicative phenomena that are amenable to analyses from pragmatic and/or discourse-analytic perspectives and frameworks (e.g., im/politeness theories, relevance theory, genre analysis, interlanguage pragmatics, historical pragmatics, corpus pragmatics, etc.) will also be accommodated in the conference schedule (see list of topics below).

1. PRESENTATION TYPES

Presentations must be preferably in English, although proposals in Spanish will also be accepted. They must address any of the subjects that fall under the conference topics (see below) or any related topic connected with pragmatics and (digital) discourse analysis, regardless of the approach, typology or methodology. Presentations may be made of any of the following types:

A) INDIVIDUAL ORAL PRESENTATIONS

20 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

B) THEMED PANELS

These must contain a number of thematically-related papers, each of which must be 20 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion. Proposals for panels must also include a chair.

C) POSTERS

Participants presenting a poster must obey the following norms:

• Posters should be no larger than 118,9 x 84,1 cm (A0).

• They can be printed in colour or in black and white.

• Poster presenters must bring a printed copy of their poster with them to the conference, as there will not be printing facilities at the conference venue. Presenters will also be responsible for displaying the poster and removing it at the time and in the place designated by the conference organisers.

2. TOPICS

In addition to the conference theme, topics for presentations may be, but are not limited to, the following:

• Pragmatic analysis of (digital) discourse.

• Discourse and identity.

• Discourse as a tool to pathologise identities.

• Discourse and reality construction.

• Discourse and social relationships.

• Discourse and ideologies.

• Humorous discourse.

• Sociocultural factors affecting communication

• Cognitive factors affecting communication.

• Face-to-face communication.

• New developments, interactions or challenges in pragmatic analyses of:

- Morphology, lexicon, syntax and/or prosody.

- Procedural meaning.

- Im/Politeness and relational work.

- Language aggression and conflict.

- The pragmatics of emotions.

- Figures of speech (irony, metaphor, hyperbole, etc.).

- Interlanguage pragmatic development.

• Experimental testing.

3. SUBMISSIONS

Proposals must be sent through the conference website (http://eventos.upo.es/go/epicsxii): Please make sure that your submission includes:

A) ORAL PRESENTATIONS AND POSTERS

• Two Word/pdf files with a one-page abstract. One of them must be anonymised, while the other must include authorship. The abstract must not exceed 300 words (references not included). The abstract template is available in the attached file as well as on the conference website (http://eventos.upo.es/go/epicsxii). Please name the file with the anonymised abstract “File1_Surname” and the file with the non-anonymised abstract “File2_Surname”.

• A Word/pdf file named “File3_Surname” with personal information. The table to enter such information is also available as an attachment and on the conference website (http://eventos.upo.es/go/epicsxii). Please make sure you indicate whether you cannot present on a specific date.

B) THEMED PANELS

In addition to the two files containing the abstract and the information alluded to above for each presentation, panel proposals must also include a one-page abstract no longer than 400 words for the whole panel.

4. DATES

The deadline for receipt of abstracts will be 1st December 2025 (23.59 C.E.T.). Proposals will be double-blind peer-reviewed. Notifications of acceptance will be sent progressively, from the moment abstracts are received and before abstract submission closes, as the reports on suitability for presentation are received. At the very latest, notifications of acceptance will be sent on 30th January 2026.

Languaging Crises conference, Helsinki, 4-5 March 2026

The Languaging Crises conference focuses on the ways in which language is used and abused in crisis situations or the ways in which various crises are dealt with in different texts. In particular, more research is needed on how the language used during small- and large-scale crises is targeted at, and received by, different demographic subsets within heterogeneous societies, and whether effective communication requires a messaging strategy that takes those subsets into account in different ways. The presentation proposals can approach communication and language use during crises from various perspectives, ranging from linguistics and language studies to discourse analysis, communication and social studies. They can also deal with both diachronic and synchronic communication about global and local crises and examine texts by public figures, the media, organisations or individuals. AFRICAN PRAGMATICS ASSOCIATON & THE UNIVERSITY OF DSCHANG, CAMEROON The Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Call for Papers: 4th African Pragmatics Conference Date: 24-27 February 2026 Venue: University of Dschang, Cameroon, Central Africa Theme: Pragmatics and Social Justice in Africa Conference Overview Pragmatics, the study of language in the context of use and users, has developed significantly over the years with an excellent feat in dealing with context-dependent and context-shaping communication across several domains thanks to the influences of its theories. While the West had a thankfully and domineeringly pioneering role in creating and nurturing the theoretic trajectories of pragmatics, Africa, in recent times, has also contributed to the pool. Thus, theories and models such as the speech act theory (Wittgenstein, 1953; Austin 1962; Searle 1969, 1983; Bach and Harnish 1969, 1979); intention-based theories (Grice 1975, Sperber and Wilson 1995); the pragmatic act theory; face, politeness and impoliteness theories (Lakoff 1974; Brown and Levinson 1987, Culpeper 2008; Culpeper and Hardaker 2017); interlanguage pragmatics (Kasper and Blum-Kulka 1993); variational pragmatics (Barron & Schneider, 2008, 2009); intercultural Pragmatics (Kecskes 2014); the complicity model (Verschueren 2022) and sundry other interventions are currently being complemented with African-developed models such as the contextual beliefs model (Odebunmi 2006); postcolonial pragmatics (Anchimbe and Janney 2011); emancipatory pragmatics (Ameka and Terkourafi 2019) and cognition pragmatics (Odebunmi 2024). This huge theoretic arsenal of pragmatics has recently been shown to possess the ability not only to describe how language works in context and how intentions and agendas are constructed or co-constructed but also how pragmatic analysis is used to address pressing social issues. It is within this intersection that this 4th conference of the African Pragmatics Association (APrA) has captured the question of social justice in Africa. Social justice has often been based on five principles: equal access to economic, social and political resources; diversity; equity; participation and human rights. These principles are also partly reflected in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR): “recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world …” and in the words of Professor Thuli Madonsela at the Social Justice Summit and International Conference in Stellenbosch, 29 and 31 August, 2019: “As long as there is injustice somewhere, there can’t be sustainable peace anywhere.” Although social justice is still a desire in most global communities, it is a more serious concern in Africa where multiple social, economic and political obstacles wrapped in ideological realities undermine the right for social justice. Thus, a pragmatic approach, with a multidisciplinary dimension, enhances the understanding of social justice, and its interfaces with issues of identities, ethnicity, sociality, culture, ecology and power dynamics. This 4th conference of the African Pragmatics Association seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and critical thinking on the intricate and multidimensional relationship between pragmatics and social justice in Africa. We typically have approximately 1,000 scholars and creative writers in attendance (we have professors, artists, writers, graduate students, and undergraduates, including Linguistics, English, Spanish, French, Asian Languages, Italian, German, Ethnic Studies, History, and Media Studies professors and students at the conference, as well as independent scholars and people who are simply interested in literature, linguistics, culture, and the arts).

PAMLA is loosely affiliated with the Modern Language Association, but we are our own Humanities and Arts association that's been around for 125 years. We are dedicated to the creation, advancement, and diffusion of the aesthetic practices and knowledge of ancient and modern languages, literatures, cultures, and the arts. And, even though I'm biased, I think the annual PAMLA conference is one of the most vibrant and friendly literary and arts conferences around.

Dear friends and colleagues,

We are pleased to announce our call for the 8th International Conference of the Asia-Pacific LSP & Professional Communication Association on the theme of “Collaboration, Innovation, and Impact: Bridging Academic and Professional Worlds”, to be held in person from 11th to 13th December 2025, hosted by the Department of English at City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR.

The conference theme reflects the growing complexity in the social context of Languages for Specific Purposes and Professional Communication practices. Developments in technology, including the recent rise of generative artificial intelligence and more long-standing ubiquity of social media communications, continue to have a profound effect on the communication practices of academics and professionals alike. At the same time, society is increasingly faced with a range of “wicked problems” that demand collaborative and innovative responses from stakeholders in the academy, the professions, and in industry. Issues of communication frequently play an important role in determining whether effective solutions can be found, and, to engage with these issues, collaboration and innovation is essential. Submission of Abstracts 

Because of heavy competition for slots in the program, we can only consider one contribution of which they are the first author (whether thematic panel contributions, papers, or posters). Anyone may be involved in a second or even a third paper if someone else is the first author and will also be present at the conference.

The required format for submissions is an abstract of 300 words (excluding references). For references, please follow the APA Citation Style (7th edition). Abstracts should include a brief outline of the research/project context and clearly indicate the objectives, method(s), and results.

Pragmatics of health communication in non-English languages and cultures Pragmatics of health communication in non-English languages and cultures Pragmatics of health communication in non-English languages and cultures Pragmatics of health communication in non-English languages and cultures Pragmatics of health communication in non-English languages and cultures Pragmatics of health communication in non-English languages and cultures Pragmatics of health communication in non-English languages and cultures Health communication constitutes a broad area of inquiry that “includes both speech and writing as well as emerging digital modes of communication that increasingly mediate the practices of contemporary healthcare and public health messaging” (Brooks and Hunt, 2021). As health communication is burgeoning, pragmatics is pivotal in understanding, analysing and documenting medical encounters along the various approaches that shape health discourses. As one type of healthcare communication, doctor-patient interactions, for example, have long benefited from a wide range of pragmatic theories from ´meaning and action co-construction (Heritage and Maynard, 2006) to their underlying socio-moral orders of epidemics and deontics (Stivers, et al., 2018) and relationship management in context´ (Scarvaglieri, et al., 2022). Despite the promising expansion of pragmatics to various medical contexts and the proliferation of approaches and methods in recent years (cf. Martin, 2014), the pragmatics of healthcare suffers from a data imbalance in terms of the languages and cultures it explores. Most studies have hitherto focused on the data in English and among non-English languages in the West, but have less represented non-English, non-Western languages and cultures. This scenario warrants a balancing attempt to integrate these languages and cultures into the broader spectrum of medical pragmatics. Such an attempt will not only lead to a better understanding of the social institution of medicine universally but also to the possibility of comparison of healthcare communication across a variety of languages and cultures. To address the problem outlined above, we call for panel contributions that focus on the pragmatics of healthcare communication in non-English languages and cultures. In terms of topics of investigation, we are open to various aspects of healthcare communication in medical contexts including interactions between the health providers and receivers (e.g. doctors with patients) and between the health providers themselves (e.g. doctors with doctors/nurses) in hospitals, clinics, private practices, etc. The panel brings together researchers who draw upon various pragmatic theories and methods to investigate a variety of medical contexts in their languages and cultures. We welcome contributions on the following areas but also remain open to topics not included here but match our general focus. The research group “Intercultural Pragmatic Studies (English-Spanish): Pragmatic and Discourse Issues” is pleased to announce the upcoming Eleventh International Symposium on Intercultural, Cognitive and Social Pragmatics (EPICS XI, after the Spanish acronym for “Encuentros de Pragmática Intercultural, Cognitiva y Social”). EPICS XI will be held on May 22^nd-24^th 2024, at the Faculty of Humanities of Pablo de Olavide University, Seville (Spain). It will be an on campus, face-to-face academic event.

The conference theme will be “Pragmatics and discourse analysis: Synergies to understand interpersonal communication” (see the list of topics for presentation below). The following scholars have agreed to be EPICS XI keynote speakers:

1. Presentation Types

Presentations must be in English and address any of the subjects that fall under the conference topics (see below) or any related topic connected with pragmatics and discourse analysis, regardless of the approach, typology or methodology. Presentations may be made of any of the following types:

Individual oral presentations
20 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
Themed panels
These must contain a number of thematically-related papers, each of which must be 20 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion. Proposals for panels should also include a chair.
Posters

Participants presenting a poster must obey the following norms:

Posters should be no larger than 118,9 x 84,1 cm (A0).
They can be printed in colour or in black and white.
Poster presenters must bring a printed copy of their poster with them to the conference, as there will not be printing facilities at the conference venue. Presenters will also be responsible for displaying the poster and removing it at the time and in the place designated by the conference organisers.

2. Topics

Topics for presentations may be, but are not limited to, the following:

New or recent interactions between different frameworks or approaches in pragmatics and discourse analysis.
Sociocultural and cognitive factors affecting production and comprehension of language/discourse in face-to-face or mediated (by telephone, computer, smartphone, etc.) communication in a variety of genres (included social media like Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and settings (classroom, parliaments, service encounters, etc.).

The Language of Food academic symposium seeks to delve into the complex relationship between language, food, and culture. Food has always been a means of communication, expressing identity, tradition, and social dynamics within communities. This symposium will bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from diverse disciplines such as linguistics, anthropology, sociology, history, and culinary arts. By examining various aspects of culinary communication, we aim to deepen our understanding of how language shapes and is shaped by food practices.

Topics to be explored include the role of food-related vocabulary and metaphors in language, the social and cultural dimensions of food language, the use of food as a medium of communication in different societies, and the impact of globalization on food discourse. We will also investigate how food-related texts, such as food stall signages, government material, cookbooks, menus, and food blogs, contribute to the construction and transmission of culinary knowledge.

Individual oral presentations: 20 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
Themed panels: These must contain a number of thematically-related papers, each of which must be 20 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion. Proposals for panels should also include a chair.
Posters: Participants presenting a poster must obey the following norms:

Posters should be no larger than 118,9 x 84,1 cm (A0).
They can be printed in colour or in black and white.
Poster presenters must bring a printed copy of their poster with them to the conference, as there will not be printing facilities at the conference venue. Presenters will also be responsible for displaying the poster and removing it at the time and in the place designated by the conference organisers.

Obvious physical examples are religious, terrorist, inter-national, intra-national and inter/intra-ethnic battles. Higher up the scale, with a global force, is the health violence currently led by Covid-19 in all its strands, which is followed by various other infectious and chronic diseases shredding the human body and the human heart. Less obvious but equally lethal manifestations are relationship, marital, workplace and neighborhood crises. All of these categories of violence come with psychological dimensions, a type of violence which also exists in its own right and keeps the group and the individual in a site of intra-personal trauma. Practically, they have continued to define and re-define territorial, entitlement, linguistic, ideological, legal, diplomatic, cultural, economic, technological and domestic claims, boundaries, alignments and misalignments within general or specific cognitive, social, socio-cultural and linguistic contexts bounded by principles of pragmatics with the potential not only to espouse what is said, signed or done but also what is unsaid in human and non-human communication with respect to the cues of violence captured from all life scenarios vented through speech, body language, paralanguage, non-linguistic properties, multimodal resources, literary windows, the social media and sundry other avenues invented by humans. This Conference of the Pragmatics Association of Nigeria hosted by Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo will engage the theme, “The Pragmatics of Violence”, encapsulated in the foregoing details, from diverse and multidisciplinary perspectives anchored to the multifaceted interfaces of how context provides a grip on the understanding of the phenomenon of violence and some illumination through its dark tunnels for improved human relations and global peace. CONFERENCE “The Pragmatics of Cringe Humor on the Screen & on Digital Media” 4-5 May, 2023 in Montpellier, France Contact Person: Virginie Iché Meeting Email: cringehumor2023@gmail.com Web Site: https://cringe-humor.sciencesconf.org/ Call for papers: This conference intends to examine the pragmatics of cringe humor in the English language on the screen (in sitcoms, TV series, filmed stand-up comedies, films etc.) and on digital media (in audiovisual, textual or multimodal forms). “Cringe humor” should not be taken as yet another coinage to be added to the long list of terms already used to account for humorous phenomena (as Attardo puts it (2020, 8), “there is no reason to coin a new term if there is a perfectly good one already”). Indeed, Schwind uses the expression “embarrassment humor” (2015) and Schwanebeck, in his introduction to his special issue devoted to painful laughter (2021), refers to the expression “cringe humor” along with Moore’s “comedy of discomfort” (2007). However, the widespread use of “cringe humor” since the success of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s BBC mockumentary sitcom, The Office (BBC Two, 2001-2002) as well as of the hashtag #cringe on digital media pleads for retaining this term over others. “Cringe humor” points to the specific embodied reactions to cringeworthy/humorous contents found both on the screen and on digital media, i.e., “an involuntary inward shiver of embarrassment, awkwardness, disgust” (OED), “shudder and discomfort” (Schwind 2015, 67), “psychic unease” or “physical pain” (Duncan 2017, 37), and even “intense visceral reaction” (Dahl 2018, 19). The following topics and questions may be approached, the list not being exhaustive: - cringe humor vs. failed humor (Bell 2015): the felicity conditions of cringe humor in English language on the screen and on digital media, - the discrepancy between the presence of cringe humor between characters (CL2) vs. the lack of cringe humor on the recipient’s level (CL1) or vice versa, - the cumulated effect of the presence of cringe humor on both CL2 and CL1, - the dissemination of cringe humor from the initial post on digital media to the comment section and its pragmatic effects on the various speakers involved - the (im)politeness and ethics of cringe humor on the screen and on digital media—whether on CL2 or CL1, or both, - the distancing/bonding effect of cringe humor; cringe humor and empathy, - comparative approaches: cringe humor on the big screen/small screen vs. computer-mediated cringe humor, - multimodal approaches to cringe humor, - diachronic approaches to cringe humor: is present-day cringe humor more rapport-aggravating or rapport-enhancing? - the impact of the mode of diffusion (cinema, TV screen, VOD, streaming sites, website, social media) on the type of cringe humor and/or the reaction of the addressee(s), - the reception of cringe humor: generational / gendered / sociocultural / historical perspectives. This Seminar is organized by the Research Center on Multilingualism, Discourse and Communication (MIRCo) at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and UCL Center of Applied Linguistics at University College London Institute of Education. Toward Multimodal Pragmatics: A Study of Illocutionary Force in Chines (Routledge)

Multimodal pragmatics is an emerging filed which could extend research horizon. Classic pragmatic theories emphasize the linguistic aspect of illocutionary acts and forces. However, as multimodality has gained importance and popularity, multimodal pragmatics has quickly become a frontier of pragmatic studies. This book adds to this new research trend by offering a perspective of situated discourse in the Chinese context. Using the multimodal corpus approach, this study examines how speakers use multiple devices to perform illocutionary acts and express illocutionary forces. Not only does the author use qualitative analysis to study the types, characteristics, and emergence patterns of illocutionary forces, he also performs a quantitative, corpus-based analysis of the interaction of illocutionary forces, emotions, prosody, and gestures. The results show that illocutionary forces are multimodal in nature while meaning in discourse is created through an interplay of an array of modalities. CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Pragmatics and Language learning (PLL 2022)
ONLINE - September 12-14, 2022.

The conference main theme will be Teaching and Learning Interactional Pragmatics in a Digital World, but we welcome a broad range of topics in pragmatics, discourse, interaction, and sociolinguistics in their relation to second and foreign language learning, education, and use, approached from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives. We hope this conference brings together scholars and educators from all around the world who are interested in discussing both established and innovative approaches to teaching and learning pragmatics to strengthen our understanding of principles and practices in PLL and push the field to new and exciting directions in research and practice.

Plenary talks will be live and we have tried to schedule them so that a large part of our international audience can access at least half of them. The rest of the presentations will be 'simulive' (pre-recorded 20 minute presentation with live interaction by the presenters) or poster sessions (5-7-minute pre-recorded presentation within Zoom breakout rooms for interaction).

The National Foreign Language Resource Center (NFLRC) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon are pleased to announce the 2022 Pragmatics & Language Learning Conference (PLL 2022), which will take place online on September 12-14, 2022.

Plenary talks will be live (considering different time zones). The rest of the presentations will be simulive (pre-recorded 20-minute presentations with live interaction by the presenters) or poster sessions (5-7 minute pre-recorded presentation with Zoom breakout room for interaction).

EPICS X deadline extension

Dear all,

Please note that the deadline for submission of proposals for the 10th International Symposium on Intercultural, Cognitive and Social Pragmatics (EPICS X) has been extended to December 15th, 2021.

EPICS X will be held next May 2022 at Pablo de Olavide University in Seville. There will be three plenary lectures by Prof. Anne Barron, Prof. Nuria Lorenzo Dus and Prof. Crispin Thurlow, and host several themed sessions. The conference is intended to be an on-campus event. Yet, facilities for remote presentation will be provided to participants who are afraid of travelling or from countries with travel restrictions.

6th ESTIDIA (European Society for Transcultural and Interdisciplinary Dialogue) Conference, Alicante, 15-17 June 2022

Dear IPrA members,

I am happy to share with you the attached Call for Papers (with extended deadline) for the 6th ESTIDIA Conference that will be held at the University of Alicante, Spain, on 15-17 June, 2022. The theme of the conference is Dialogue-shared Experiences across Space and Time: Cross-linguistic and Cross-cultural Practices.

The programe features 5 plenary talks, individual presentations, and 7 workshops (2 methodological workshops and 5 thematic workshops). Full descriptions of the workshops (including the workshop participants’ abstracts) can be accessed through the links to each workshop in the updated CfP.

The extended deadline for abstract submissions is the 1st December 2021.

You are most welcome to submit your proposals both for individual papers and workshop presentations.

Seeking collaborators for postdoctoral project on digital and mediated communities

I’m Liz Marsden and I’ve just started a three year postdoctoral research project at Åbo Akademi in Finland.

As part of my postdoctoral work, I want to create a highly collaborative multi-authored book focusing on community formation, interaction, and norms in online or otherwise mediated groups.

The attached video gives a brief overview of my intended project structure.

I'm at the very early stages, so I welcome any constructive comments, as well as expressions of interest from potential collaborators, and I can be very flexible regarding where this project goes.

Seeking for partnerships in pragmatic studies of elders' communication in China

The Research Center for Aging, Language and Care at Tongji University was created to address the important issues of language aging and cognitive preservation in the context of global aging, with a particular focus on China’s aging population and the frontiers in aging studies. The Center is among the first independent institutions of its kind in China to adopt multimodal approaches and conduct academic research, personnel training and social services in the field of language aging, cognitive decline, and gerontology. Utilizing multifaceted disciplinary approaches, the Center conducts fundamental research on linguistic behavior, cognitive pattern and pathomechanism of seniors with dementia, especially pragmatic features in daily communication. The Center also carries out research and development on early diagnosis, cognitive training, disease management and database construction with the help of Artificial Intelligence technology. We also screen for cognitive impairment and participate in social services, as well as providing think tank suggestions for governments on aging-friendly community construction and aging society management. As a leading innovative research institution in China, the Center works closely with the academic, clinical, and industrial sectors to carry out research that aims to promote the active aging of the growing population of China’s aging seniors. Currently, the Center is building Multimodal Corpus of Gerontic Discourse (MCGD) under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Yueguo GU and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lihe HUANG. This corpus building task is to construct the largest multimodal corpus of Chinese elders' communication. Call for FWO Junior and Senior Postdoctoral Fellowships in Pragmatics via UAntwerp (deadline 01/12/2021)

I would like to attract your attention to the following call issued by the most renowned Flemish funding channel in Belgium: Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO). It is a call for FWO Junior and Senior Postdoctoral Fellowships.

FWO Postdoctoral Fellowships are personal fellowships for a three years appointment with very attractive conditions when it comes to salary compensation, expense budgets and flexibility for research/teaching activities. The fellows work for the FWO at an eligible host institution. The University of Antwerp and more specifically our research group Grammar and Pragmatics are willing to serve as a host institution for applicants in the field of pragmatics.

The deadline for proposals is the 1st of December 2021 and if a fellowship is granted, it will start on the 1st of October or the 1st of November 2022

The journal Coaching | Theory & Practice (CTP) is dedicated to a high-quality, evidence-based, and innovative scientific exchange that focusses on the professional development format “coaching”. The aim is to further consolidate the scientific foundation of coaching, as well as a practice-oriented professionalization and quality control. Though originally situated in the field of occupational and organizational psychology, the journal is open to all other disciplines in response to the complexity of the subject matter and the requirements of coaching practice.
